First Walleye with Dad
By Connor Pennings
6 years, 1st grade

I went fishing at the river with my dad and some friends on Sunday afternoon of walleye opener in 2008. It was a sunny day.

My dad tied on a lindy-rig with a nightcrawler and I cast it into the river. I propped the rod against a stick and walked down the bank to talk to my dad's friend.

I had only walked a few feet away when another friend said, "Connor look at your rod!" My rod was bent over so I ran and grabbed it to set the hook.

I carefully reeled it in and my dad reached into the water to land it.

I couldn't believe it when he held it up; it was the first walleye I had ever caught! The walleye measured 21 inches.
